Testing FAQs

Quick answers to the most common questions about Testing in Tarteel.

Are my mistakes from a test saved to my Mistake History?

Yes. Mistakes made during a test are saved to your Mistake History and appear in the mushaf, just like mistakes from a regular recitation session.

The exception: if the Temporary Session toggle was on in your test settings, nothing from that session is recorded.

Can Tarteel test me on my weakest areas?

Yes. On the Testing home screen, tap the Weakest Link suggested test. It tests you on the areas where you make the most mistakes. See What are the “Suggested for you” tests?

Can I test with friends?

There's no specific multiplayer mode yet, but if you want to pass your phone around for group practice, turn on Temporary Session in your test settings first. That way, other people's mistakes won't be saved to your Mistake History.

The quickest way to turn it on is the hourglass icon at the top of the Test screen, next to the "Test" title. Turn it on before you start the test, because you cannot change it once a test is running.

Why did the question continue past the number of lines I set in my Test Settings?

The "Extend question to ayah's end" setting is on by default, so questions continue to the end of the final ayah even past your chosen line count. You can turn it off in your test settings. Questions are then able to also stop mid-ayah at a pause mark (waqf), not just the end of an ayah.

Why did my test end on its own?

A few possible reasons:

  • 30 seconds of silence pauses the test automatically. It hasn't actually ended. Tap play to resume.

  • Sessions end when they reach the question limit you’ve set in the Test Settings (the default is 10 questions).

  • A dropped internet connection pauses your test. Once you're back online, tap play to resume.

  • Switching out of Test mode ends the test, even a paused one.

Can I get the same question twice?

Not within a single session. Questions don't repeat until your whole selected range has been covered, and then they recycle. Each new session starts fresh, so a passage from a previous session can appear again.

Does Testing work offline?

No. Testing needs an internet connection, because your recitation is recognized live on our servers.

Can free users use this feature?

We may sometimes run promotions where free users may are granted a certain number of questions to try out per day. If you don’t see any free questions, no promotion is currently active.

Do test sessions count toward my streak and goals?

Yes. A completed test counts toward your streak and your goals, and test mistakes update your Mistake History and your scores, the same as a recitation session.

One thing a test will not do is add new memorization. It affects the scores of passages you already marked as memorized, but only you can mark new passages as memorized.
