Troubleshooting Testing

If a test won't start, stops unexpectedly, or can't hear you, the steps below cover the most common causes.

"Connection Lost" or "Something Went Wrong" Errors

Testing needs an internet connection. Your recitation is recognized live on our servers, so Testing does not work offline.

The exact messages in the app are "Connection lost", "Sorry, something went wrong", and "Couldn't connect. Check your connection and try again."

If you see a connection error during a test:

  • Check that your device is online, and try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

  • If you use a VPN, ad blocker, or DNS filter, try disabling it temporarily.

Tarteel Can't Hear My Recitation

If Tarteel does not have microphone access, the test will not start: the app shows a permission screen instead. To grant access:

On iOS (iPhone/iPad):

  1. Open your device Settings.

  2. Scroll down and tap Tarteel.

  3. Make sure the Microphone toggle is turned on.

On Android:

  1. Open your device Settings.

  2. Tap Apps (or Apps & notifications).

  3. Find and tap Tarteel.

  4. Tap Permissions.

  5. Make sure Microphone is set to Allow or Allow only while using the app.

If the test starts but no words are revealed as you recite, the microphone is already working. Check your internet connection and try a quieter environment instead.

My Test Paused or Ended on Its Own

  • 30 seconds of silence pauses the test automatically. It hasn't ended. Tap play to resume where you left off.

  • Sessions end when they reach the question limit (the default is 10 questions), which can feel sudden if you forgot the limit was set.

  • A dropped internet connection pauses your test. Once you're back online, tap play to resume.

I Was Tested on the Same Passage Again

Within a single session, questions don't repeat until your whole selected range has been covered. After that, passages recycle. Each new session starts fresh, so it's normal to see a passage you were already tested on in a previous session.
